FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Welcome to the Get My Rides FAQ. Here you’ll find answers to the most common questions about booking and renting cars through our platform.
Before Booking
What is Get My Rides?
Get My Rides is a comparison and booking platform that helps you find and book rental cars from trusted local and international providers. We don’t own cars ourselves – the rental is fulfilled by the provider you select.
Do I need an account to book?
No, you can book without creating an account. However, having an account makes it easier to view, manage, and modify your bookings.
What documents do I need to rent a car?
- A valid driver’s license (must be held for at least 1 year in most cases).
- An international driving permit (IDP) if required by local laws.
- A valid credit card in the driver’s name for deposit purposes.
Is an international driver’s license required?
EU drivers: A standard EU license is usually enough.
Non-EU drivers: Some countries require an IDP in addition to your local license. Always check local rules and the rental provider’s policy in advance.
What is the minimum age to rent a car?
The minimum age is usually 21, but it varies by country and provider. Drivers under 25 may be subject to a “young driver surcharge.”
Booking Process
How do I book a car?
Enter your pick-up and drop-off details, compare available cars and providers, choose your vehicle, and complete the booking form. You’ll receive confirmation by email.
Can I choose a specific car brand or model?
Bookings are generally for a car category (e.g., Economy, SUV). Providers guarantee a car of the same category and features, but not always the exact model shown.
How do I know my booking is confirmed?
You’ll receive a confirmation email with your booking details, the provider’s contact information, and pick-up instructions.
Can I book extras such as GPS, child seats, or Wi-Fi?
Yes, most providers offer extras that you can add during the booking process or request at pick-up. Additional fees may apply.
Can I book one-way rentals (different pick-up and drop-off locations)?
Yes, many providers allow one-way rentals, though an additional fee may apply. This will be shown before you confirm your booking.
Payments
How can I pay for my booking?
Payment depends on the provider: full payment online, partial payment online with the rest at pick-up, or full payment directly at pick-up.
What payment methods are accepted?
Major credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, etc.), Apple Pay, Google Pay, and in some cases debit cards. Credit cards are usually required for deposits.
Do I need a credit card at pick-up?
Yes, most providers require a credit card in the driver’s name to secure a deposit against damages, fines, or additional charges. However, some providers can accept debit cards for deposit payments as well as cash - use the filters on our search page to locate them.
Are there any hidden fees?
No - Get My Rides is fully transparent. All mandatory charges (taxes, insurance, fees) are shown before booking. Optional extras and surcharges are clearly displayed.
When will I be charged for my booking?
This depends on the provider’s payment model. Some charge at the time of booking, while others only pre-authorize your card until pick-up.
Pick-up & Vehicle Use
Where do I pick up my car?
The exact location (airport, city office, hotel delivery, etc.) is shown in your booking confirmation.
What happens if I’m late for pick-up?
Contact the rental provider as soon as possible. Providers typically hold vehicles for 1–2 hours after the scheduled pick-up time.
Can someone else drive the rental car?
Yes, but additional drivers must be registered with the provider at pick-up. Extra fees may apply.
Are there mileage limits?
Some rentals include unlimited mileage, while others may have daily limits with charges for extra kilometers.
Can I take the rental car across borders?
Cross-border travel depends on the provider’s policy. Always check in advance – extra fees or insurance may apply.
Fuel, Deposits & Insurance
What is the fuel policy?
Common policies include Full-to-Full and Same-to-Same. Not following the policy may result in refueling charges.
How much is the security deposit?
Deposits vary by provider and car type, typically €300-€1,000. Some providers may allow rentals with a reduced or no deposit.
What insurance is included?
Most bookings include basic coverage (Collision Damage Waiver, Theft Protection, Third-Party Liability), often with an excess.
What is an “excess” in car rental insurance?
It’s the maximum you pay if the car is damaged or stolen. For example, if the excess is €500 and damage costs €1,200, you pay €500.
Can I reduce or remove the excess?
